Welcome to OWFI
Oklahoma Writers' Federation, Inc. The Oklahoma Writers’ Federation, Inc. is a non-profit federation of writers groups dedicated to promoting higher standards for the written word. We believe that the literary profession has come of age and merits a fair share of the critical acclaim so generously lavished on other worthwhile arts. OWFI seeks to coordinate and encourage professional writing within and without its organization and to promote the recognition of outstanding contributions to the written language. OWFI assists in forming and encouraging local writers groups within but not limited to the state of Oklahoma, and brings together the membership to foster a greater understanding of our mutual problems and efforts through friendly interchange. We also provide a forum for improving the craft of writing by hosting an annual writer’s conference in Oklahoma, seek to raise the standard of our craft by promoting an annual contest and recognizing meritorious work through the presentation of awards at the annual conference, and prepare and distribute within the membership a newsletter designed to keep the each member abreast of organizational activities and other matters pertaining to our mutual interests. Conference 2008: Fantastic Forty--Writers Glory OWFI announces its "FANTASTIC FORTY--WRITERS GLORY" 40th ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE to be held May 1-3, 2008 at the Sheraton Midwest City & Reed Center in Midwest City, Oklahoma. The conference features 25 authors, editors, and agents offering 40 informative programs to help you learn to write better and get published. It also helps you meet, network, and make lasting friendships, and to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from writing and publishing professionals. This is one of the finest and least expensive writers' conferences in the country, so plan to attend. Register early as the conference has sold out in the past. 2008 Writing Contest - Contest Entry due date now passed. The annual OWFI writing contest features competitions for cash prizes in 29 unpublished manuscript categories and awards four trophies for the best books published during the previous calendar year (in this case, 2007). A $20 entry fee entitles participants to enter as many categories as they want, but they may enter no single category more than once. Since the contest's purpose is to encourage writers to produce professionally acceptable manuscripts, the contest rules are very explicit, and contestants must follow them closely. OWFI offers Affiliate and Member-at-Large (MAL) memberships. Affiliate members are those OWFI members who belong to an Affiliate group of OWFI. The annual membership fee for an Affiliate member is $20.00. Members-at-Large are individuals who are not also a member of an OWFI Affiliate. The annual membership fee for a MAL is $25.00.
